2002: Order by order

Traffic & Control Communication: After “Deutsche Bahn” Funkwerk also receives the order for the delivery of GSM-R Terminals for the French railway SNCF with a volume of 40 mil euros. With the order Funkwerk established itself as the market leader in Europe. In addiction Funkwerk systems are also in use for the local public transport: a pilot project with the Berlin railway runs successfully.

Automotives Communication: With the first generation of the KomBox Funkwerk transformers the car in to a mobile office, in which you can manage all your needs for communications. With this Funkwerk established itself as a supplier of communication facilities for the car industry.

Starting March 18th 2002, Funkwerk has been listed in the NEMAX 50 index

On 17 June 2002, Funkwerk reinforces its established Traffic & Control Communication segment through the takeover of “ALPHA meß-steuer-regeltechnik GmbH”, headquartered in “Neustadt an der Weinstrasse”. The company with its long tradition develops and manufactures customised system solution in the area of radio- based measurement and control technology, as well as automation and process control engineering. ALPHA GmbH’s customers largely well know operators of utilities and in the area of provision and disposal of water, energy and gas supply.

With this acquisition, Funkwerk takes its first step towards using professional wireless technology in industrial application and filling a new market segment beyond public transporting services companies.

On 18 September 2002 Funkwerk reinforces its Enterprise Communication segment, as scheduled .The takeover of the wireless LAN technology provider ARtem GmbH based in Ulm, in which Daimler-Chrysler Venture GmbH also participated, supplemented the technology platform and at the same times creates access to new customer groups in the areas Public Hot Spots, Research & Science, Health, Logistics, Institutions and Industry.

The End of the year 2002: Funkwerk reaches new records with turnover and profit. For the first time the turnover is more than 100 mil euros and rises by 61% compared to the year before. The result grows by about 35% to 8.9 mil euros. At the end of the year there are more than 800 “Funkwerker”.
