19 December 2007: Funkwerk Enterprise Communications: New Release for Access Points
Funkwerk Enterprise Communications (FEC) now offer a new release for the access points. The core component of the firmware update 7.5.1 for the devices of the Wx002 and the WI series is the Funkwerk Configuration Interface (FCI). It implements a common user interface for all Funkwerk devices in the network. In other FEC devices, such as the Media Gateways or the UTM series, it has already been implemented. With the FCI, the Nuremberg-based full-line provider has established the basis for simplified and efficient network administration. Especially in small- and medium-scale enterprises, the FCI can take the strain off the IT department and releases time and financial resources for new investments and project management tasks.

Funkwerk Enterprise Communications GmbH (FEC), a Funkwerk AG company, launches the new WI series of access point devices on the market for use under extreme environmental conditions. The two versions of the devices are suitable for installation of wireless LANs (WLANs) in dusty or damp environments and under extreme temperature conditions, for example in outdoor environments or in industrial production facilities. The WI series from FEC addresses professional users from the fields of manufacturing industry, e.g. the automobile industry, the healthcare sector, storage and logistics, as well as public transportation. The WIx040 devices of protection class IP40 are intended for indoor use; the casings of the WIx065 outdoor devices protect against dust and water jets compliant with protection class IP65.

The funkwerk W-Client USB .11abg can practically be connected to any external antenna which possesses an RSMA connector and, thus, increase its range considerably. One example is the patch table antenna of FEC. The range of such an antenna amounts to a multiple of the one of a WLAN client integrated into the PC. The gain in range is reached by the higher antenna gain, as well as the option to place and adjust the antenna in an optimal manner. This makes it possible to integrate distantly located clients over several hundred meters into the mobile communications network.

Funkwerk Enterprise Communications (FEC) extends their Unified Threat Management (UTM) line by two new models. funkwerk UTM1100 is designed for up to 10 users and is particularly suited for small-scale offices, subsidiaries, or home offices. funkwerk UTM2500 now also enables companies with more than 250 network subscribers to ensure the all-round protection of their networks with only one device. As interfaces, 6-Gigabit Ethernet ports are available. Already since the beginning of the year, funkwerk UTM1500 has been on offer for up to 75 users and funkwerk UTM2100 for 100 to 200 users.

Expanding its product portfolio of IP access solutions, FEC will market the important Unified Threat Management (UTM) product line through its outlets under the name Funkwerk UTM. The first products from the Funkwerk UTM family will be available with expanded functionality and the FEC user interface as early as February.
