Funkwerk and TETRA increase prison security
Straubing prison to be first German facility with complete personal emergency call and professional messaging system with TETRA technology. One of the key roles of correctional facilities is to protect the public from crime. To be successful, however, their “inside“ needs to meet maximum security requirements. This increasingly requires intelligent solutions which combine staff protection with an automated alerting system to enable faster access in case of danger. One of the world’s most innovative systems is now installed in Straubing prison.

In 20,000 trains around the world
The world’s most successful mobile radio device for train radio communication and rail traffic control is developed in the Thuringian town of Kölleda. The “cab radios” from Funkwerk are already installed in 19,999 trains from Norway to Saudi-Arabia and India to China.

Funkwerk gets first contract for electronic interlocking system in East Europe
AŽD Bratislava, as a leading supplier of signalling equipment in Slovak Republic, has awarded a contract to Funkwerk Information Technologies GmbH (Funkwerk IT) for delivery of an AlisterCargo System to be installed for controlling of gravity hump yard operations. The order is part of a major project in which AŽD Bratislava is responsible for the modernisation of the marshalling yard in Žilina Teplicka in the north of Slovakia. The AlisterCargo Interlocking System will be used for fully automatic control of hump yard procedures and as a vital interlocking system (SIL 2) to ensure the safety of shunting movements.

Press Release - Carsten Ahrens appointed CTO of FUNKWERK
The Executive Board of Funkwerk AG has set up a new office. With effect from 1 October 2010, Carsten Ahrens (47), previously sole managing director at Ericsson Deutschland, will take on the position of Chief Technology Officer at Funkwerk in which role he will be responsible for the further development and controlling of communication and information technologies within the group.
