Funkwerk is a specialist for professional communications systems used in vehicles, by transport organisations, companies and institutions. We help our customers rationalise their operating procedures, secure staff and operating functions and create value-added, with state-of-the-art system solutions.

Funkwerk is strategically well positioned in the markets of the future, with its headquarters in the Thuringian town of Kölleda. All four segments have been established for decades.


The important points of the Funkwerk-story at a glance:

1992: The formation of the „Hörmann-Funkwerk Kölleda GmbH“ Wolfgang Junkel and Dr Hans Grunder take over the management. Since 1993 the company delivers mobile train radio communication systems for the east European and west European railways.

1997: The “Hörmann Gruppe” takes over as a supplement to “Funkwerk Kölleda” in the course of a privatisation of the “Funkwerk Dabendorf GmbH” which develops, makes and sells mobile radio accessories since 1993.The new company has with the COMPENSER®- amplifier technology for vehicles a unique position in the market. With the market launch of the first universal hands free system it soon creates the certification as an A-supplier for the car industry.

1998: After the reorganisation ”Funkwerk Dabendorf“ is very successfully in the market with hands free systems and Compenser. They multiply the sales volume within two years.

1999: On ground of the technological projection ”Hörmann Funkwerk Kölleda” is selected as a supplier of GSM-R terminals for the Deutsche Bahn AG. The order to the equipment of the company headquarters with Telekom facilities and management systems also goes to Funkwerk.

2000: On 15 November the Funkwerk AG enters to the stock markets, initially being listed on the “Neuer Markt” of the Frankfurter Stock Exchange. In spite of the already clouded stock market mood the Funkwerk stock is recommend by the experts and is placed successfully. More to the year 2000 can be found here.

2001: Funkwerk receives the biggest order of the company history with a volume of more than 50 mil euros for the delivery of Dual Mode GSM-R Terminals for the “Deutsche Bahn”. At the same time Funkwerk profits from an inquiry boom of hands free devices. More to the start of the growth phase can be found here.

2002: On 18 März Funkwerk has been listed in the NEMAX 50 index. After “Deutsche Bahn” Funkwerk also receives the order for the delivery of GSM-R Terminals for the French railway SNCF with a volume of 40 mil euros. 2004: The Funkwerk share is admitted to the select TecDax index, thus entering the top rank of German technology and growth securities. More to the year 2004 can be found here.

2005: The city of Turin gave an order about the project engineering, delivery and installation of the video supervising system aboard the underground line 1 and the company headquarter to "Funkwerk plettac electronik GmbH". Find out more here.

2006: Funkwerk AG, has been given, as part of the "Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Award", the award for "Sustained Excellence". This prize was awarded for the first time to a total of three companies. In addition to financial success factors also excellence in the areas of competitive advantage, management and attractiveness of the market segment have been awarded. 2007: Security technology and communication systems from Funkwerk will in future also protect the facilities of a well-known oil and gas supplier in North Africa. Funkwerk will deliver and install special explosion and dust proof electronic components worth some EUR 40 million to help protect the plants and industrial sites at various locations in Algeria. 2008: Chancellor Angela Merkel personally attends the CEBIT to find out about innovations introduced by Funkwerk as an exhibitor in Hannover. She has CEO Dr. Hans Grundner present to her a new router which brings the virtual world into the car. More to the year 2008 can be found here.

2009: Funkwerk AG implements its first major project in India. The company will handle the automation of the pellet plant required for iron ore supply in one of the steel factories of TATA Steel in Jamshedpur. more

2010: The world’s most successful mobile device for rail traffic control has arrived on the fifth continent. Rail Corporation New South Wales (RailCorp NSW) from Sydney opts for GSM-R train radio systems from Funkwerk.
