Road to FRMCS

Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) is the working title for the upcoming 5G-based communication system for railways across Europe. Its development ist a joint effort by the international railway association UIC and the railway industry, co-financed by the European Union.

Certified according to the latest standards, train radio communication has been breaking new ground thanks to our MESA®26 radio system. Two aspects in particular distinguish what makes the system stand out: the application of radio module MT5E, its integrated filters which protect against interference from external networks, and its innovative software that distinguishes itself by splitting into operating modes – from multi-mode with GSM-R, to analogue and LTE. That is why the MESA®26 has long since been in use in many European railway operations. Due to the modular structure of the MESA®26, of course upgrades for future requirements like FRMCS are possible!

TRS6000

Our GSM-R voice train radio system with improved TRC5e-MRM is used as a powerful all-rounder throughout Europe. Digital and analogue software country packages make it possible to use the system flexibly and cover the entire train radio portfolio. The TRS6000 is equipped with an extended 3 MHz GSM-R frequency band and has proven excellent IM3 blocking behaviour (UIC-FMG). In the field, it features excellent interference behaviour.

Our solution for ETCS radio data transmission

RIU-ETCS 5E

The European Train Control System (ETCS) is the control and surveillance system for trains used by European railway operators. For the Chinese market a specification in the form of the Chinese Train Control System (CTCS) applies.. Our radio data transmission device RIU-ETCS is our mobile solution for your ETCS/CTCS-applications, consisting of two completely independent radio modems with GSM-R Mobile Terminations MT and accompanying power supply modules. Our RIU is available as a modular system with up to four independent EDOR units. A data logger is offered as an option for  logging  the radio module and network data.

RIU-ETCS 5E

The European Train Control System (ETCS) is the control and surveillance system for trains used by European railway operators. For the Chinese market a specification in the form of the Chinese Train Control System (CTCS) applies.. Our radio data transmission device RIU-ETCS is our mobile solution for your ETCS/CTCS-applications, consisting of two completely independent radio modems with GSM-R Mobile Terminations MT and accompanying power supply modules. Our RIU is available as a modular system with up to four independent EDOR units. A data logger is offered as an option for  logging  the radio module and network data.

MT radio modules are used as a link between the GSM-R network and mobile train radio devices In accordance with the respective current European technical specifications for train radio communication systems (TSI ZSS)  the modules are operated in the GSM-R frequency range with maximum transmitting power of eight watts. The “focX2” family of devices is a 3G/4G smartphone with a dedicated GSM-R radio modem. The rugged handheld radio meets the requirements of the EIRENE standards. Funkwerk is already working on implementing the FRMCS requirements in the next generations of focX handheld radios.

Our DualfocX S was the first OPS (Operational Purpose Handheld for Shunting) on the market, also featuring 450 Mhz direct mode. Analogue train radio modules

ARM26

Funkwerk offers analogue radio modules for two different frequency ranges:

  • 2-m-radio unit RMA 2
  • 70-cm-radio unit RMA 7

They are used in analogue radio device ARM26. With the help of this analogue radio unit ARM26, train radio communication system MESA®26 becomes a dual-mode system that can operate in both analogue and digital radio networks.

TRS6000: CAB – Analogue Box

The TRS6000 train radio system covers the frequency range for 70-centimetre radio units (450 MHz) in analogue train radio with the CAB – Analogue Box. An electronic unit for system control is integrated. Our CAB – Analog Box has various interfaces to expand the system modularly and thus to react flexibly to new requirements. For example, MMIs and human interfaces (CHIs) can be connected via CAN and digital train radio systems via RS422. The system is suitable for mounting in a wall bracket and for rack installation.
